Whoa! Did you see those temps this morning! Winter has arrived folks! I feel still can’t believe we are staring December in the face. Fall is always the busiest time of year for us wedding planner types. October has officially replaced June at the most requested month for weddings… and for good reason. The weather is wonderful, the leaves are to die for and there is no humidity! Unless you have some serious allergies to leaf mold there is nothing better than Fall in Virginia… or New York!! This October we got to spend part of our October in the Big Apple! Our friends over at Glamour and Grace asked us to help with a Handmade Mountain Inspired Vignette at the Aisle Society Experience presented by Minted.

Our design inspiration was to bring the cozy comfort of the mountains to NYC. We designed an autumn woodland ceremony scene in a neutral color palette filled with natural wood stumps, tons of candles, and handmade details. Mountain scene projections by DJ Jacob Towe brought the whole look to life. We created lavender toss bags with the help of Minted and of course, no fall mountain wedding is complete without a snuggle station. The handmade gold “Here comes forever” sign looked adorable with our flower girl and we ended the night with sweetness and s’mores with homemade marshmallows by Little Boo Boo Bakery.

It was an incredible experience and we are so blessed to have been a part of it. New York’s Bridal Fashion Week was amazing culminating with the styled shoots on Thursday morning with Aisle Society’s industry party following. I can’t even tell you how much I loved watching our models come to life in each of the vignettes. They interacted with the guests and really made it into an interactive experience. All I can say is, I hope they ask me back next year.
We wrapped a family trip around our participation in this event and it was definitely an experience for the whole family! Nik and the Girls had never been to NYC and were so looking forward to it so after weeks of prep work, DIY and loading stumps into my Dad’s Dodge Ram (which Glamour and Grace’s amazing Megan drove). We boarded a plane Tuesday night and flew into JFK where best laid plans always go awry. Our luggage never made it off the Tarmac even though the plane had been unloaded and sent on its way. After nearly 2 hours of waiting we finally collected our very important luggage which held 3 Badgley Mischka gowns for me, various monogrammed dresses for the girls and a tux for Nik. After another hour in the car, we were a ragged by the time we go to the check in desk at the Waldorf Astoria. THE WALDORF!!!! I had never been and figured Hey… If we’re going to do New York we’re going to do it right! Actually because of Comicon and Bridal Fashion week the Waldorf was a cheaper

option than the Marriott in Times Square. Even though our event was on the Lower East Side we wanted to be in Midtown to make it easier for Nik to tour around with the girls while I was working. He took them to the Empire State Building, American Girl Store (God Bless him), they ate street food, got burgers for the homeless guy on the corner and suckered into buying a mixed tape. HAHA! Isn’t that hysterical?! Nik listened to exactly 43 seconds of it when we got home and was like nope!! Can’t do it. I found this so funny, but really our best wishes are with you buddy! In between styling and rubbing elbows with some pretty amazing industry people I was able to get out and sightsee with them. I took the girls to tea at the Plaza and we rode back to meet Nik in a bicycle cab. Together we went to Times Square which surprisingly wasn’t our favorite part of the city. It did suck

us into spending more money than we would like at the Disney Store. Our 2 year old was in Toddler heaven! We took a carriage ride through Central Park, ate street food, bought some street art, got taken for a ride in Battery Park and had to walk 9 blocks to a pier to catch a water taxi when we really wanted to get on the Statue Tours boat… but nevertheless we did get to see Ellis Island and Lady Liberty. We walked to the 9-11 museum and spent some time at the memorial pools. We went to the top of The Rock, Carnegie Deli, had frozen hot chocolate at Serendipity and had dinner in Hell’s Kitchen before boarding a plane back home on Sunday. Of course with a city like New York there is never enough time to see and do everything but, it’s a good excuse to go back! Any suggestions for what we should see next time?
