Our friends over at Eight Ray Music asked us to weigh in with our opinion for Wedding Trends to be on the lookout for in 2017.  We try our best to stay current on trends in the Wedding Industry both on a regional and International level.  I’ll be going to the TSE conference in Long Beach in January to meet with other like minded individuals about what to expect next year since Engagement season is upon us.  I’ll be part of a panel with Honeybook and Sasha Souza at TSE and in my free time will be checking out all the wonderful exhibits Long Beach is bringing together.

I’ve been seeing some trends develop here in Richmond VA this year and my favorite is what I call the MEGA Band!!  I’m seeing more and more couples looking for ways to interact with their guests and really putting value on creating an interactive experience.  Large bands are becoming increasingly popular.  My last few weddings have all had bands with 7+ members which offers a really wide berth for choosing music and accommodating different styles and instruments.

I’m also expecting to see more creative elements and artistry at weddings like live portrait artists, silhouette artists, separate bands for cocktail hour and reception, custom designed linens and historic venues.  My clients are looking to create a story with the design of their weddings and seek to include elements that only them may know the significance. The movement is to create an experience rather than an event.

We’ve been seeing the trend of custom signs for several years now.  I fully expect for that to continue but expect that we’ll see less graphic designs and more hand calligraphics.  Calligraphy is such an art form and is definitely solidifying itself as an artisinal craft.   It’s

a practical and useful art form that dates back to Ancient Rome.  And its one of my all time favorite trends and a fun and inexpensive way to add some personality to your wedding.
